Sexual Assault Awareness Month Community Vigil

Please join NewStory Center for a Sexual Assault Awareness Month Community Vigil on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 5:30 p.m. at NewStory Center, 92 Grove Street, Rutland. NewStory Center will honor the strength and resiliency of victims and survivors of sexual assault. Attendees can view the display of silent witnesses, hear remarks from staff, listen to a poetry reading, and create a luminary in honor or memory of a survivor. There is no cost to attend.

Sexual assault is a widespread issue. Nearly one in five women and 1 in 71 men are reported to be survivors of sexual assault. NewStory Center provides support to survivors of sexual assault through emergency shelter, medical and legal advocacy, counseling and case management, and referrals to area resources. In 2022, NewStory Center accompanied 11 survivors during sexual assault nurse exams at Rutland Regional Medical Center. Additionally, NewStory Center provides prevention efforts throughout the communities of Rutland County in an effort to prevent future incidents of sexual violence.
